Taking Care Of Your Baby's Skin: What You Should Know

Posted on

Your baby's skin is sensitive and new to the world and the elements around it. Your baby's skin is not used to the sunlight, the dry air during cold months, or the humid air in the summer months. This is why it's so important to take care of your baby's skin, as the skin cannot handle these things without some extra love and attention. If you aren't sure how to take care of your child's skin, or you have seen some issues with your baby's skin, you need to talk to the pediatric dermatologist about these issues and what you can do about them to treat the condition. Read on for some helpful information about caring for your baby's skin.

Use A Sensitive Baby Wash

You should use a baby wash made for sensitive skin for your infant. Don't use other types of washes on your infant, or anything that has a lot of fragrance or chemicals in it, as it is going to dry out the skin or lead to bumps or even a rash. Only use washes that are made for infants and are pediatric approved. Wash your baby's skin with a gentle wash and with a soft cloth to prevent damage to the skin.

Moisturize After Bath

Apply a gentle moisturizer to your infant after the bath to soothe the skin and hold in moisture. Moisturize using a sensitive moisturizer made for infants. Fragrances such as lavender can help aid in sleep after a bath, but sometimes it can lead to rashes, so be wary of using these types of moisturizers. Natural moisturizer can also be used to hold in moisture in your infant's skin and prevent dry skin.

Watch For Skin Issues

Keep an eye on your baby's skin for skin concerns such as dry bumps on the skin, redness, or dry patches. If you see any of these areas, it could be minor dermatitis, or your infant could have eczema, which may heal over time, or it could need medical treatment such as special medicated topical creams. Watch for these or other skin concerns and take your infant to the pediatric dermatologist for treatment.

You need to take good care of your infant's skin and watch for skin concerns. Your baby needs your help in doing this to ensure its sensitive skin is healthy. Report anything concerning to your baby's dermatologist to ensure it is treated properly.
